To: The Congregation of Christ Community Church of Plainfield

From: The Council

After much prayer, meditation and discussion in seeking God’s will for our Church, the Council has decided to affirm the Search Team’s recommendation to call Pastor Phil Covert as our next Lead Pastor. The next step in the process will be a presentation about this decision to the congregation this Sunday, August 15, immediately following the Church service. Please plan to stay after the service for this presentation.  A question and answer time will also occur after this presentation.

The process that was put in place to come to this decision has been prayed over and thought through carefully and included several components beginning with the development of a Search Team. Immediately, the Search Team developed a flow chart from which to work for the purpose of seeking out a candidate who would best fit and lead our Church. Components of the flow chart included: communicating with the congregation through updates and e-mails, developing a Church profile, receiving and reviewing applications, developing a candidate questionnaire and reviewing the questionnaires, conducting initial phone interviews, checking references, conducting secondary phone interviews, observing candidates, and completing formal interviews with Search Team, Council and Staff, preaching at CCCP, holding additional interviews with Staff, Council and Search Team, and preaching a second time and answering questions from the congregation.  One of the final components of the flow chart was to make a recommendation to the Church Council by the Search Team following by Council affirming the recommendation of the Search Team. These components have been completed.  We have also worked with Pastor Gregg DeMey from the CRC Pastor-Church Relations Committee as our Church Counselor. Throughout the process, Pastor DeMey observed and provided additional input and also interviewed Pastor Covert.

Our decision to affirm the Search Team’s recommendation was not based solely on one area or aspect in the process.  We took into account many aspects before coming to this decision. We have felt the prayers of this congregation throughout this process and have appreciated your feedback through e-mails and the church’s web site. Thank you for your help in this process.

The next steps of this process involve you, and we want your help, input, and prayers.  This Sunday, August 15, please plan to stay after the Church service for the council’s presentation and discussion regarding the affirmation of calling Pastor Phil Covert as our next Lead Pastor.  Also, on August 22, we plan to have the formal congregational vote to formally call Pastor Covert as our next Lead Pastor.

Respectfully,

The Council

From: The Pastor Search Committee

Greetings,

On Sunday, 8/1, the Pastor Search Committee provided an update to the congregation on the status of our lead pastor search.  Below is a recap of that update.  The email updates are posted on a blog at www.aplacetoconnect.com under the “Quick Links” section on the left hand side of our home page.

We have two candidates, Phil Covert and Jeremiah Fyffe, which have come in to preach for their second time.  Jeremiah preached just last week and Phil a little over a month ago.

The council and search team have had significant in-depth interactions with both candidates and their references outside of the sermons they have preached.

In addition, we have had an opportunity for everyone to get to know the candidates better following their sermons through the continuation and Q&A sessions.

The search committee and council want everyone to know how helpful the comments have been following their sermons through email and direct discussion with search team or council members.

At the beginning of the search process we described a flow chart that we are following.  The next step is for the search committee to make a recommendation to the council.  That step is expected to take place next week.

If you have any questions feel free to ask a council member or search team member.

Most importantly continue to pray for the candidates and pray for the search committee and council as we seek God’s Will in this process.

In Christ,

The Pastor Search Committee

Greetings,

On Sunday, 6/20, the Pastor Search Committee provided an update to the congregation on the status of our lead pastor search.Below is a recap of that update.  The email updates are posted on a blog at www.aplacetoconnect.com under the “Quick Links” section on the left hand side of our home page.

The search committee has moved one step closer to moving the search process to our Church’s council with a recommendation.  Two candidates will be coming back to preach in the coming weeks with a format for all to get involved.  We encourage everyone to take advantage of this opportunity.

Phil Covert will be preaching next week on June 27th.  Following the service Phil will be staying on past the continuation and will be available for Q & A time with anyone in our congregation.

Jeremiah Fyffe will be preaching on July 25th with the same Q & A format following the service.

Please continue to pray for the search committee in seeking God’s will and to pray for the candidates as they seek God’s will for their direction as well.

In Christ,

The Pastor Search Committee

Greetings,

On Sunday, 4/11, the Pastor Search Committee provided an update to the congregation on the status of our lead pastor search.  Below is a recap of that update.  The email updates are posted on a blog at www.aplacetoconnect.com under the “Quick Links” section on the left hand side of our home page.

The Search Committee

The search committee last met on Tuesday April 6th.  The committee has focused its time and efforts in reviewing questionnaires, resumes, conducting interviews, and checking references in accordance with our process flow chart.

Status of the Search

Candidates that we have moved forward in the process come from backgrounds in CRC (Christian Reformed Church of North America), Reformed and PCA (Presbyterian Church in America).  We have identified some quality candidates during the process.  A concern was then raised about the amount of time it takes for the candidates to get to know Christ Community Church and for us to get to know the candidates.  In an effort to avoid missing an opportunity with these candidates we have made an enhancement to the process.

We will bring in these candidates over a weekend to meet with the search team, council and to preach at both services on Sunday.

It is important to note that we will not be voting on these candidates at this time and that there is no guarantee that they will continue through the process after they preach.

The Candidates

Andrew Schmidt is scheduled to preach on April 25th.  Andrew has been an Associate Pastor with Third Reformed Church in Pella, IA for the past five years primarily in a preaching role.  Andrew resigned this past March to pursue a lead pastor position.  Andrew and his wife Camille have three boys, Elliott, Emmitt and Ezra and are expecting a fourth boy in May.

Phil Covert is scheduled to preach on May 16th.  Phil is Assistant Pastor and Minister of Youth and Families at Carolina PCA Church in Locust, NC where he has been for the past seven years.  Phil’s focus has been on preaching and outreach ministries.  Phil is pursuing a lead pastor position or starting a church plant.  Phil and his wife Sarah have two boys, Haddon and Knox and are expecting their third child this summer.

Look for additional information to be provided regarding these candidates.

We are conducting an open process and encourage anyone who has questions to seek out a search team or council member.

If you know someone who you think might be a fit for the senior Pastor position please direct them to our website landing page at www.aplacetoconnect.com/pastor .

Please continue to pray for the search committee in seeking God’s will and to pray for the pastor God has chosen to lead Christ Community Church of Plainfield.

In Christ,

The Pastor Search Committee
