To: The congregation of Christ Community Church of Plainfield

From: The Pastor Search Committee

Greetings,

On Sunday, 2/21, the Pastor Search Committee provided an update to the congregation with information on communication, the search committee, status of the search, and more.  Below is a recap of that update.  The email updates will be posted on a blog on our website at www.aplacetoconnect.com under the “Quick Links” section on the left hand side of the home page.

Communication

The three avenues of communication being used are 1) Direct – done periodically through announcements given at the Sunday services, 2) Email – sent following the Sunday announcements, and 3) Blog on our website mentioned above.

The Search Committee

The search committee last met on Tuesday February 16th.  One new member was added to the committee, Pastor Gregg DeMey.  Pastor DeMey came to us through the CRC’s Pastor-Church Relations Committee to assist us in the pastor search process as a Church counselor.  Pastor DeMey’s roles include engaging with the Search Committee and our Council as well as, acting as a liaison between the Search Committee and pastor candidates.  Pastor DeMey had encouraging comments for us regarding our progress and approach to the search process.

Status of the Search

Church Brochure – The Church brochure has been completed.  The brochure will be distributed to candidates to generate interest in the position and as a resource for them to learn, in a concise format, important information such as our history, vision, mission, ministries, information on the surrounding communities and much more.

Classified Ad – We have launched an ad for the pastor position with the Banner that appears on their website (www.thebanner.org) now through April under classified ads – church positions.  In addition, the ad will appear in the Banner magazine in the March and April publications.  The Banner is a monthly publication by the CRC with a significant circulation that shows how the Christian faith in its Reformed expression makes sense for today’s world.

The Search Process

The outline of the pastor search process can be broken down into two pieces, the participants in the process and the steps that we will follow.

The groups involved in the process are: applicants, the Search Committee, the Council, the congregation and Classis.

The Steps involved in the process are: find applicants, complete a questionnaire, submit a resume, phone interview, reference check, 2nd interview, candidate observation, formal interview (by Pastors and Elders), a message delivered by the pastor candidate to Christ Community Church, congregation vote, Classis approval, formally calling of the candidate.

Applicant Update

We have 18 names.  Praise God! We are very early in the process and yet we have 18 names already.  The names came from a combination of the CRC, the Classified Ad on the web, and word of mouth.

If you know someone who you think might be a fit for the senior Pastor position please direct them to our website landing page at www.aplacetoconnect.com/pastor .

Please continue to pray for the search committee in seeking God’s will and to pray for the pastor God has chosen to lead Christ Community Church of Plainfield.

In Christ,

The Pastor Search Committee

To: The congregation of Christ Community Church of Plainfield

From: The Pastor Search Committee

Greetings,

This is the first of many future emails to help keep everyone informed with the status of our search for a senior Pastor.  We are excited about the search process and to see what God has in store for us and His Church!

On Sunday, 1/17, the Pastor Search Committee provided an update to the congregation with information on the status of the search process, the search committee, and more.  Below is a recap of that update.  The email updates will be posted on a blog at our website.

Communication

The goal is simple – to keep everyone informed with what is being done and how we are progressing in the search.  Communication will be coming from announcements at the services, follow up emails covering the announcements (for those who missed the service or didn’t catch everything that was said), and postings to a blog on our website.

The Search Committee

We will pray for God’s wisdom and guidance in this process.  We must prepare for a new senior Pastor.  We can do that by providing information about Christ Community Church and Plainfield including the surrounding communities.  We need to determine what channels we will use to search for pastors and then create a process to find the right Pastor for Christ Community Church.  The members of the search committee are; Church Council President Russ VanDyke, Pastor Tristan Mason, Dan Kok, Chad Van Soelen, Claude Marbach, Bob Gill, Jeff Dekker, Rhonda Elfstrand, Nick Cosentino, Sam Machacek, Andrea Sales, and Cliff Bolen.

Status of the Search

The search committee has completed the Church profile provided by the Pastor-Church Relations Committee of the CRC (Christian Reformed Church) in North America.  This CRC committee offers their assistance in matching Pastors to congregations.  The profile contains useful information regarding the characteristics of Christ Community Church such as ministries offered and demographics of the congregation also leadership expectations of the Pastor we are looking for along with financial, building information and history of Christ Community Church.

The search committee is in the process of assembling a brochure about the Church to be accompanied by information on Plainfield the surrounding area that will be valuable tools and generate interest to potential Pastors.  We are preparing a job advertisement for the position that will then be used for various publications, the internet and word of mouth for finding Pastors.  In addition, we are developing a questionnaire and website landing page for Pastor candidates that reach out to us.

Timeline

Research we have done tells us that an estimate of six to fifteen months is reasonable.  However, in reality it is unknown to us and known only by God.

We are not rushing the process, but we are working diligently to prepare.

If you know someone who you think might be a fit for the senior Pastor position please contact Dan Kok – email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

What can you do to help?  Continue to pray for wisdom for the search committee and the future pastor who will lead us.

In Christ,

The Pastor Search Committee
