VBS
Every summer, hundreds of children from our community attend VBS at Christ Community.
What is Vacation Bible School (VBS)?
If you aren’t sure what Vacation Bible School (VBS) is, you’re not alone. Actually, the name has been around for a long time—some say over 100 years! The original VBS programs began as a way to teach children more about the Bible and would sometimes run for many weeks during both the summer and the school year. VBS programs have changed a lot since those early days, and now VBS includes music, games, crafts, and much more!
Here at Christ Community, VBS is a fun-filled children’s half-day camp that we offer for one week each summer. Children who attend will be connected with a group of their peers, enabling them to make meaningful friendships throughout the week. Each group will visit various stations every day where dedicated volunteers have planned exciting games, creative crafts, tasty snacks, great music, and engaging Bible stories. All the activities are coordinated around a daily “Big Idea” that links up with the theme for the entire week. We also give children and volunteers an opportunity to serve our community by partnering with a local mission organization each year to do things like bring food for local food banks or collect basic supplies for needy families. Kids love being able to help others!
VBS week is always a lot of fun, both for children and volunteers! But the most important thing we do during VBS is help kids learn about and interact with the truth about God’s involvement in the world and in their lives. We believe that learning about God can be both challenging and fun.
